2012-13 Board Actions
1. Appropriate attire and attendance for tournament medal winners.
a. Fencers will present themselves in full whites (fencing gear) when receiving medals at all
GHSFL tournaments. Fencers who are not in full whites will not receive their medals or
earn points for their school.
b. Fencers who are not present at the GHSFL medal ceremony will not receive their medals
or earn points for their school. Exceptions will be made only for illness or injury, and
must be approved by the bout committee before the final bout of the tournament.
2. Coaches in the GHSFL will wear attire representing the high school they are coaching. If
coaching more than one school, non-fencing specific attire is recommended. The aim is
appropriate professional attire for coaches in a high school sponsored league.

Black Cards
When a fencer who has completed his or her pool withdraws from a tournament prior to DEs, the
fencer’s pool results will be included in the DE tableau. The fencer will then receive a black
card when they do not report to the strip for their DE bout.
If a fencer withdraws prior to completing their pool, their results will not be included in the DE
tableau.
A fencer who decides to leave a GHSFL tournament for ANY reason other than a certified
medical withdrawal or family emergency will receive a black card. In order not to receive a
black card, the fencer who wants to withdraw for medical reasons or family emergency must
notify the faculty sponsor of his or her school prior to departure, and that faculty sponsor must
notify the bout committee prior to the fencer’s departure.
ALL black cards given in the GHSFL should result in the following:
1. The fencer will receive no points and will be listed as “excluded”.
2. The fencer may not count a partially completed tournament as 1 of the 3 needed to
qualify for the Individual Championships.
3. The fencer may not compete in the next tournament of the season. Example: If the black
card is received in January, then the fencer may not compete in February.
Bout Committees
Each school that has fencers competing in a GHSFL tournament must have a representative on
the Bout Committee of the tournament in which they are competing. The designated
representative must sign-in on the Bout Committee sheet at the beginning of the tournament.
The designated representative should be present for the entire tournament in the event that
questions for the Bout Committee arise. This provides representation for each school that is
competing.
